Welcome to my BirdSend Review!
With all these e-mail service providers (ESP), it’s hard for anyone to decide which e-mail provider it’s the best for them.
Some people don’t want to overpay. Others don’t want to use it that much, others want something with more “features,” and others want something simple just to send e-mails to their contacts.
The thing is that it can annoy many people when they try to find ‘the best e-mail provider,’ I know it happened to me when I tried to find one…
If you want to find a simple yet, powerful ESP, you probably want to learn about BirdSend.
*Don’t forget to check the bonus I have for you at the end of this post*
BirdSend Review: Quick Overview
You probably know what BirdSend is, right? In case you don’t let me explain.
BirdSend is an e-mail marketing platform designed for content creators.
If you want to create automated e-mails with ease, faster, and also track your conversions, this is the e-mail platform that you must use.
As you will see later on, BirSend has a few innovations (<- my word) that we don’t see very often with similar e-mail services.
At the moment of writing this, BirdSend is what I would call a newcomer compared to other platforms such as GetResponse and ActiveCampaign.
But in my own opinion, BirdSend doesn’t have to afraid many things, according to what I saw inside the platform (and after some conversations with the co-founder and CEO, Welly Mulia, and the customer support, they know what they are doing, and they are focused on the things they should improve.
Let’s see the Features…
BirdSend Review: Best Features
1)A/B Split Test
I’ll begin with one of my favorites, which is the A/B Test for headlines. Let’s take this part seriously. If you ever sent an e-mail (to your contacts) or if you subscribed to anyone (which you probably have), what’s the first thing you see when you receive an e-mail, and you decide whether to open it or completely ignore it?
It’s the “Title” of the e-mail, right?
Now BirdSend, made it so simple to create an A/B Split test that will help you increase your open rates.
Let me put that way. If people don’t open your e-mails, people won’t buy what you are selling.
The first thing that you have to do if you want to “win the e-mail marketing game” is to make people open your e-mails.
So, I guess you probably know why you should also like this feature.
Furthermore, you can have the option to choose your “winner headline automatically,” and in that way, you can save a lot of time by not checking at every e-mail and manually choose the winner.
You can even determine the criteria of a winner. You can choose Higher Earnings, Higher #Sales (conversions), higher click rate, or higher open rate. Choose what you most care about.
I would recommend you (if you are a beginner) to choose the “higher open rate” at first.
Then you can choose how long you should wait to determine the winner.
Lastly, you can even resend the “winner e-mail” to unopen e-mails. Set your timeframe and the e-mail will be resent to people who haven’t opened your e-mail the first time.
2) Landing Pages/ Webforms
This part is important, especially if you are a content creator, for example, a blogger and want to integrate your web forms with your blog (popups).
In my opinion, BirdSend should create more web forms and give us more options to choose from.
Although, I have to mention that the design is much better than many other web forms I’ve seen with other e-mail marketing platforms.
3) Resend To Unopens
I know I mentioned this feature above. Yes, you can resend the winning e-mail to people when you do your A/B Split Test.
The thing is that you can do this with every e-mail by simply deciding your timeframe and when the e-mail should be re-sent to people that didn’t open it the first time.
4) Know The Worth Of Your Contacts
You can track the ALTV (Average lifetime value) or the LTV (Lifetime Value) of your contacts without using any other tool. BirdSend will do this for you automatically, and all you have to do is simply login to BirdSend, and it will be there in your dashboard.
Knowing the Average Value of your list is important. In that way, you can even determine whether your list is profitable or not, if you have a buyers list, etc.
BirdSend will help you by showing you exactly how much you earn(ed) from every e-mail that you’ve sent. Yes, you can track your open and click rates, but now you’ll know the revenue too.
You won’t have to spend hours and hours creating a spreadsheet to manually calculate your earnings or even pay for different tools to it for you. (3rd party tools)
5) Conversion / Sales Tracking
Full Disclaimer: I haven’t used the conversion/sales tracking, and therefore I’ll write it with what I’ve found from BirdSend. You can read it here.
To be completely transparent, I used this page to explain in the best way possible this section. Thank you for understanding!
BirdSend will automatically track the conversions/sales for you. Once you set-up, it will be reported inside your account.
According to BirdSend:
It’s important to know 2 components.
Worth mentioning that only the people that clicked your link inside an e-mail and then “bought” something will be tracked.
I simply added this feature here because I believe it’s worth mentioning that it has various Integration with all the systems you probably want to use or already using.
In case you don’t find the integration you want, you can simply connect BirdSend with Zapier with more than 1000+ platforms.
7) Customize Everything
Something that I truly like is that you can customize the footer of your e-mail.
Usually, the footer of an e-mail will look like this.
“This E-mail was sent to [senders email] because you opted in on our (website).
[Details from the person/company you received the email]
With BirdSend, you can even change the ‘footer’ of your email.
By customizing your footer, you can write something “smart” to evade people unsubscribing, and also have a more personalize footer content for everyone. Don’t worry. You won’t have to do it every time.
This is what BirdSend will send if you don’t edit it.
Furthermore, they have HTML and CSS email customizations, which will allow you to make a few changes, although If you don’t know HTML and CSS, simply ignore it.
8) No List, Just Tags
With BirdSend, you don’t have to create lists. According to BirdSend they completely removed the “list” concept and replaced with a simpler yet more power “tags” features.
In a few words, ‘tags’ will provide more flexibility for you.
Simply put, when a new contact opt-in, you can simply add a tag and also add the subscriber to ‘tag-sequence.’
For example: If you have a ‘tag’ called LEADGEN, you can simply have a sequence called LEADGEN Sequence, and people that opt-in and automatically get the tag will begin that LEADGEN sequence.
If you want to send a broadcast e-mail to these groups, later on, the process is the same. Instead of choosing the list(s) you want to send an e-mail, you simply choose the ‘tags.”
Does that make sense?
Why BirdSend Is For You
As I said earlier, BirdSend was created mostly for content creators. The thing is (in my opinion) that it’s only for us. I believe that even a beginner can make this platform work for his/her needs.
It’s a simple yet powerful platform that can boost your opening rates, and track your sales. Simple as that.
If you messed up somewhere, they also have amazing support to help you.
Here’s why I believe it’s for you.
You don’t want to overpay for e-mails. They have probably the best prices at the moment of writing this review without losing the quality of their platform.
Quality + Best Price is a must no matter if you just started with e-mail marketing or you are in the email marketing space for years.
Especially if you have a large number of contacts, you probably spend more to pay the platform than you pay for your bills.
Again, if you want something simple (without having a huge learning curve) and affordable, BirdSend it’s for you.
BirdSend Step By Step Guide
I’ll do my best to guide you (step-by-step). And help you learn everything about this platform in less than 20 minutes. (No guarantees though)
The first step is to create your BirdSend account here and claim your bonus (I’ll talk about the bonus at the end of this post). The first thing that you have to is…
1) Setup Your Account
This is honestly the first thing you have to do.
Simply, click Settings (see pictures) and go to Email Settings in the Default Sender Identity and add.
From Email- Your own business email ex: firstname.lastname@example.org.”
From Name – Basically your own name (for example John Doe)
If you have a Company add it (optional)
Add Your Postal Address
And if you read earlier when I said about “editing your footer,” you can simply edit your footer from here.
After you finish, the setup clicks “sender identities,” click “new e-mail address,” and verify it.
When you send an e-mail with BirdSend, they will automatically add the BirdSend Logo in the e-mail footer. If you want to remove it, you have to be a paying member, and secondly, you have to go to <Attribution> and simply remove it
You completed the setup! Now, let’s add your contacts.
2) Add Contacts
Now, if you don’t have any contacts, you can simply skip this step, or what I would recommend you is to create a test e-mail account and do this step. It will help later on 😉
How to add them.
You can either import a file or simply add them manually. If you want to import them, you simply export your contacts from your other e-mail service and then click “import<new import<add the file.”
If you want to do this manually then,
Click the “Email” on the left (see picture) and then add new contacts. Add their info (email, name), and in the “Tag’ section, simply add the tag we created earlier. Then click “Add” and voila.
If you already have a sequence, then simply add them to the sequence you want, and the contact will automatically begin the sequence.
3)How To Create A Sequence With BirdSend
Do you remember when I said earlier in this BirdSend review that the platform it’s easy to use? Now, you’ll see why. Some platforms are so time-consuming when you want to create an automation. BirdSend is NOT one of them.
The first thing you want to do is to go to ‘Automation’ then click “add a new sequence.” and add a name to the sequence (ex: leadgen sequence)
Now, you have to decide when to send your first e-mail. I would recommend to send your first e-mail immediately or a few minutes later.
Then add a Subject Line, and start writing the e-mail. You can personalize, add buttons, and whatever you want to do. NEVER forget to use the “spam checker” when you finish. This will indicate whether your e-mails will probably go to spam or not.
Then you can either “update” to save the message you created and start writing even more for your sequence.
It’s very easy to write a sequence with BirdSend. Simply click New E-mail and repeat the process.
Remember to change the day that the 2nd e-mail will be sent. The same thing applies to every new e-mail in your sequence.
Ex: The first e-mail is Day 0, the 2nd e-mail is Day 1 and goes on.
If you made it here, you already know 60-70% of the platform!
4) How To Send A Broadcast
The process is almost the same, but with a few differences.
Click the -> broadcast and follow along.
First of all, you have to understand “how to decide which contacts should receive your e-mail. If you have 10 different tags (lists) and you want to send a specific e-mail to 1 of those lists, here’s what you have to do.
First of all, you have to understand what you want. Let’s say that we want to target the people that have the leadgen tag that we created earlier.
What you have to do is “add new condition” select “tagged with” and add the tag. When you do this, simply click “continue.”
Now it’s time for you to write the e-mail. I already explained previously (in the sequence), so I won’t do it again. The only difference here is that you will only write 1 email instead of “how many e-mails your sequence has.”
So, after you finish writing your e-mail simply click (again) <continue>
The next part is the Split Test I was talking about at the beginning of this post.
If you don’t want to Split Test, simply skip this part. If you want to add simple, follow the steps I’ve mentioned earlier in this post.
The final part is the “Schedule & Preview.”
You can either send this message immediately, schedule it, or even save it for later.
NOTE: Before you send the e-mail, ALWAYS send a preview e-mail to yourself, your test e-mail or maybe a friend and ask his opinion.
You can’t imagine how many times I’ve discovered “mistakes” inside my e-mails when I send a test email to myself.
Anyway, if you finished that part, just click “Send Now,” Or “Schedule,” according to when you want the broadcast to be sent.
5) How To Create A Form
This is the final part of this step-by-step guide. So, if you are still here, you are awesome!
You will need your form for many reasons. It’s the easiest way to automatically send your leads to the platform and start receiving your e-mails.
Let’s create your forms now!
No worries, the process is the same! Go to Forms< Add new Form <Name your Form.
The first thing you have to do is to choose the style.
You have 3 options
Popup, Welcome Screen, In content. Choose what you want.
Then, BirdSend will ask you to choose the design, and once you do, you can start editing the form. It’s a simple drag and drop.
Then you have to edit the “Display Trigger.”
At this part, I can’t help you that much, because it’s up to you if you want to show your form after X amount of time, or use it as an exit popup or whatever you want to do…
BirdSend gives you plenty of options. So utilize it, test a few ways to increase your conversions (to get more and more e-mails).
After you finish with the trigger, the next step is to choose the post-submit.
You can do 2 things here. Either redirect them to another page or simply display a message.
I can’t tell you what to do here for obvious reasons (I don’t know what you want to do) but what I can do is to give you an example.
1) If, for example, you want the people to go to another page the moment they signed up, simply choose “redirect to submit success page” and add the URL of the page.
2) If you want your people to see a message (ex: success! Check your inbox), simply choose “Post a custom message on the current page” and type your message.
Then, you have to decide whether you prefer a double or single opt-in.
I always prefer the “single opt-in” because people have to do fewer steps to join my list.
The double opt-in, though, will send a confirmation e-mail when someone sign-in. Again, choose what you want to choose here.
The final step here is to choose the “tag” you want your contacts to have and even automatically add then to the sequence you want when they subscribe.
If this is part is a bit confusing, remember that tags are basically lists and therefore, it’s like choosing which list you want the people to join when they subscribe.
Then if you have a blog, you might want to read the next part.
5.1) How To Add BirdSend to your blog
Lastly, you have to choose where to integrate the form. You can either add-in to your website using BirdSend’s plugin or use it as a BirdSend hosted page.
If you want to use it for your blog, I’ll recommend downloading the plugin.
You can also use the form as a Widget or a Link Click.
SEE? It wasn’t that hard, right?
Please share with me in the comment section if this guide was helpful.
Also, tell me if you stuck at any step and you don’t know what to do… I’m here to help you, so if you want to ask anything, don’t hesitate!
If you followed the guide and made it to this point, you are simply amazing! Congrats! Now you know how to use 99.9% of the platform!
How BirdSend Can Help You Switch Platforms Easy
If you are a member of another e-mail marketing platform, I know how time-consuming it is to transfer everything to another platform.
In some cases, you have to do everything all over again.
Here’s how BirdSend can help you. They offer a free migrate for any platform (at the moment of writing this post. Don’t know if they change that later).
What that means is that your contacts, automation, literally everything will automatically get transferred to BirdSend. You don’t have to do many things.
Imagine, if you had (or have) 30-100 e-mails, and you’d have to write them 1-1 all over again…
What happens though, when you change from one ESP to another? Will your deliverability decrease?
Before You Change ESP, READ THIS
Ok, now, not many people know this, but when you change an ESP (email service provider), you will probably notice some lower open rates.
It’s the same thing that happens to a website when you move it to another domain. It will temporarily lose Google rankings.
The same things happen for the e-mail. When you do the change, it’s like you lose your authority for a few days.
What You Should Expect.
Usually, people will notice a lower open rate at least for the first 30 days, and they have to “build” the previous reputation that they had.
Note: This will happen with any email provider! If you are in the X ESP and want to move to Y ESP, it will just happen.
This is happening for a 1 reason and 1 reason only. When you do the switch, you practically send e-mails from a different mail server, and therefore Gmail, Hotmail, etc. will see you as a new sender with no reputation at all.
What You Should Avoid Doing
The first thing that you should do is to send a smaller amount of e-mails per day. For example, if you have 50.000 contacts, don’t contact them all at once (more on this later). This will ruin your “new reputation.”
In addition, you should send an e-mail first to your “active contacts.” Don’t send e-mails to people that haven’t opened your e-mails for more than 60 days or to people who have unsubscribed.
Although, If your list is less than 5.000, you probably don’t have to worry that much.
What You Should Do
1) Use the same “From Name” & “From Email.”
2) Start small, grow the number of e-mails you send with time.
Day 1: 1000/day
Day 2: 2000/day
3) Especially the first 7-14 days send e-mails only to your most active contacts.
If you decided to switch, I hope this strategy helps you. Don’t go nuts if you see lower open rates for the first few days.
Here’s the part that I love about this platform.
It’s one of the most affordable e-mail marketing platforms, but without being a “lower” quality e-mail marketing platform.
You can literally save 70-80% of your money.
This is how much you’ll have to pay for 10.000 contacts to different platforms.
Good VS Bad
- It’s a lot cheaper than other e-mail marketing services, but at the same time, it’s a quality platform.
- They have amazing support ready to help you 24/7
- They can transfer everything from your previous platform for FREE (e-mails, contacts, etc.)
- The platform is very easy to use (or learn)
- I don’t like that they don’t offer a few ready-made templates for e-mail structures.
- I used many platforms, and I don’t like the fact that automation is so simple. I would love to see more, with “if/else” conditions, etc.
- I’d like to see more CSS customization and not to have to “code” the entire e-mail (using inline styling).
- I’d expect more integrations and forms from an e-mail marketing platform that is specifically for content creators.
BirdSend Review: Final Thoughts
If you are a content creator that wants to create e-mails/sequences fast, then BirdSend I’d recommend you trying BirdSend.
It’s a beginner-friendly platform that anyone can learn and use with ease. Besides, I believe that BirdSend doesn’t want you to waste time by spending days learning this platform. They want you to send your 1st e-mail from day 1.
Although, if you want to create the most “beautiful” e-mail, you might want to research something else.
The quality of the system plus the price can make this platform a long-term choice for you.
No promises, but I don’t think you’ll regret your decision if you join BirdSend.
